The SOUTHEASTERN PENNSYLVANIA ORCHID
SOCIETY is an educational organization. Our primary focus is our monthly
meetings, held the second Wednesday of each month (except for July and
August ).
Besides national and international speakers, we have excellent show
tables, where members display their blooming plants. All members
regardless of skill level are encouraged to share their successes. The
plants are commented on by our panel of AOS judges who offer insights and
interesting background on the plants.
The meetings provide an opportunity for learning more about orchids,
seeing great displays and camaraderie. Our membership consists of all
levels of orchid growers, from those with one or two orchids on a window
sill to those with greenhouses. All orchid enthusiasts are welcome.
Meetings are held at the Freedoms
Foundation on Rt. 23 near Valley Forge, Pa., 1.3 miles West of George
Washington's Headquarters on Rt. 23, in the REAR of the Martha
Washington Building.
From the driveway entrance on Rt 23, turn RIGHT at the first Circle, Left
at the second, passing the Atrium and Huge Flag on your RIGHT side. At the
Third circle, proceed right around the building and down a hill. You
WILL think you are lost, but when you round the building you will see the
lights and other cars. IF YOU GO UNDER THE LITTLE
BRIDGE YOU ARE ON THE WRONG ROAD!!! Here
is an aerial image of the correct location.
Our extensive library of books and journals is
housed there for members to borrow. Doors open
on meeting nights at 6 p.m. and the meetings start at 8:00.
Here is a
MAP to our location.
Our New Growers Group meets at 7:15 in the room through the double glass doors,
where the stairs are. Bring your problem plants for suggestions from the
experts... and a chair.
Each month a different topic is discussed before the floor is opened for
questions and answers. Anyone is invited to attend the group.
Show Table judging begins at 7:30 sharp! Have your plants in the proper
group and labeled. Points are awarded for each plant shown. Who
knows, you may win an award at our annual banquet!
At 8:00 the meeting convenes and we have our speaker. Often we have
slideshows and sometimes interactive demonstrations. Following the speaker
our panel of resident AOS
judges comment on the plants on our extensive show table... rated among
the best on the East Coast! After the meeting, refreshments are served.
Bring your checkbook too! Often our members will offer plants for sale and
we also have a raffle where nice plants can be won. |
